EXCLUSIVE: Michelle Williams is the latest star to join Damien Chazelle‘s new untitled drama starring Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig. Chazelle will direct and has written the script and will also produce alongside Olivia Hamilton under their Wild Chickens Productions banner. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film.
While unconfirmed, insiders say the film will be set in a prison.
Production is expected to start later this year. Chazelle had been weighing several projects last year including an Evel Knievel pic with Leonardo DiCaprio circling the lead role. That film ultimately pushed allowing Chazelle to pivot to his prison pic that he was also developing. Once Murphy and Craig were committed to star the film was off the races with Chazelle beginning to court stars for other roles. Following the success of films like Whiplash and La La Land, stars are always intrigued when one of his scripts hits the market and this case was no different with Williams signing on right before the holiday.
Williams is coming off her Golden Globe win for best female actor in a limited series or movie for critically acclaimed performance in Dying For Sex. The performance also earned her an Emmy nomination. On the film side, she most recently, Williams’ fictionalized portrayal of Steven Spielberg’s mother in The Fabelmans (2022) garnered a Golden Globe nomination and her fifth Academy Award nomination.
She is repped by CAA and attorney John LaViotte.
