Kit Harington and Sophie Turner are reuniting for the first time since playing siblings on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” together for eight seasons — but their new movie “The Dreadful” makes for an awkward family reunion.
The two play lovers in Lionsgate’s gothic horror movie, which just released its first trailer. The logline reads: “Experience an unnerving gothic tale of horror reuniting ‘Game of Thrones’ stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington and featuring the Academy Award- winning actress Marcia Gay Harden. Set in medieval England, Anne and her domineering mother-in-law Morwen struggle to survive on the outskirts of society. But when a man from Anne’s past returns from war, a curse begins to take shape through a mysterious knight and threatens to destroy them all.”
Harington and Turner both spoke about the strangeness of playing “Game of Thrones” siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, then having to co-star as lovers in their first film together.
“She was one that sent that movie to me and somehow didn’t see what I saw in it,” Kit previously told E! News. “I was like, ‘These guys, these are lovers, right?’ I felt very odd about that. But it was a good chance to be with her again and work together… It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”
He added, “What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did.”
While on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Turner said, “So, I sent the script to Kit, and he kind of sent me a message back going like, ‘Yeah, I’d love to, but this is going to be really fucking weird, Soph.’ And I was like, ‘What is he talking about?’ Then I was reading [the script] and it’s like, ‘Kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex…’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot, that’s my brother.’ We put it out of our minds, and then we get on set and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.”
“The Dreadful” hits theaters on Feb. 20.
