EXCLUSIVE: Following the acclaim of his recent comedy Splitsville, Michael Angelo Covino has found his follow-up film in the Netflix comedy The Last Fix. He is set to direct a script penned by Chuck MacLean, with insiders saying the streamer’s execs fell in love with the original spec and moved quickly to take it off the table preemptively. Sources say the film is in early development.
Plot details are under wraps, but it will be a heartfelt comedy about a Boston political fixer who discovers he only has six months to live. Covino’s production company Watch This Ready is producing; producers are Emily Korteweg, Covino and Kyle Marvin.
The project continues the collaboration between Covino, Marvin and Watch This Ready, the production company behind The Climb. That film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, receiving an eight-minute standing ovation and rave reviews calling it a breakthrough comedy for its smart, witty screenplay, slapstick comedy and impressive stunt sequences.
Directed by Covino, Splitsville will expand on The Climb’s kinetic, long-take style. Shot on 35mm, the latter film featured elaborate one-take stunt sequences, including one widely dubbed “the fight scene of the year.”
Covino is repped by WME and Canopy Media. MacLean is repped by WME.
