Kate Middleton channeled her fiery side in a red McQueen power suiting look during a reception hosting England’s women’s rugby team, the Red Roses, at Windsor Castle in Windsor, England, on Thursday, following the team’s World Cup victory last September.

The Princess of Wales wore a McQueen suit in a vivid red tone, pairing a drop-hem tailored jacket with coordinating bootcut trousers. She broke up the saturated hue with a white V-neck blouse underneath. The suit’s clean lines and sharp, angular lapels kept the look sleek and tailored.

Middleton continued the monochrome styling with pointed-toe red suede pumps. As for accessories, the British royal family member opted for gold, wearing Katherine James-designed earrings and a necklace by Auree Jewellery — two brands based in the United Kingdom.

The Princess of Wales’ connection to the McQueen fashion house extends back to more than a decade. When Middleton married her husband Prince William in April 2011, the British royal tapped designer Sarah Burton who, at the time, served as the creative director of McQueen — she departed her role in September 2024, joining Givenchy.

Along with Thursday’s Welsh red McQueen suit, Middleton owns several pieces from the British fashion house, including a blue suit, which she wore for a public outing in June 2025, as well as coatdresses and formal gowns, among other pieces.

Middleton’s penchant for power suiting is part of a broader royal tradition that spans countries, dating back to Princess Diana’s Catherine Walker suit paired with a Hackett waistcoat circa 1988.

From there, the trend has continued to grow, thanks in no small part to Kate Middleton’s curation of power suiting moments from designers like Roland Mouret, British labels like Burberry and more. One week ago, on Jan. 8, Middleton wore another monochrome suited look — a maroon selection by Mouret with a blouse by Me + Em.
