Hugh Jackman’s potential future in the MCU as Wolverine has received an exciting update, according to a recent report.
Jackman first played Wolverine in the 2000 X-Men movie. After that, he went to star in a number of Fox X-Men movies, including 2003’s X2, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 2013’s The Wolverine, 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and 2017’s Logan. He also cameoed in 2011’s X-Men: First Class and 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, while archival footage of him was used in 2018’s Deadpool 2.
After Disney bought Fox, Jackman then reprised his role in the MCU movie Deadpool & Wolverine. There’s been no word as of yet when Wolverine will next appear in the MCU, though many are speculating he’ll show up in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. Jackman has stated that he’s open to reprising the role again.
What is the update on Hugh Jackman’s MCU future as Wolverine?
According to scooper James Mack, Jackman’s Wolverine isn’t going away anytime soon. When asked if Marvel has plans to let Jackman go, Mack said, “No, as far as I know, we’ll have two Wolverines coexisting simultaneously in the new rebooted universe in the next saga. One Wolverine played by a new actor as part of the X-Men, and Old Man Logan portrayed by Hugh Jackman.”
This is just a rumor at this time, as there’s been no official announcement from Marvel about Jackman returning as Wolverine as of yet.
It is known that a new Marvel Studios X-Men movie is in the works, and that it will be directed by Thunderbolts* Jake Schreier. There’s been no casting announcements for the project as of yet, as it isn’t expected to arrive until after Avengers: Secret Wars, meaning it’s currently unclear which X-Men characters will be featured in the film.
