Meghan Markle partook in a new social media trend on Friday, January 16.

Her latest Instagram post also included a short clip filmed by her daughter, Princess Lilibet.

“When 2026 feels just like 2016….you had to be there,” she wrote in the caption.

Everyone is throwing it back to 2016, including the Duchess of Sussex. On Friday, Meghan Markle got in on the latest social media trend, sharing a photo from a decade ago.

Markle hugs her husband Prince Harry in the sweet snap, which was taken on the couple’s milestone trip to Botswana. Her carousel also included a newer black-and-white clip of her dancing with Harry, which she revealed was filmed by Princess Lilibet.

“When 2026 feels just like 2016….you had to be there,” the As Ever founder captioned her Instagram post. “🎥 cred: our daughter.”

In July 2016, Markle and the Duke of Sussex famously embarked on a trip to Africa as their “third date.” It was during this vacation that they fell in love, and Harry would later say it was how he knew Meghan was his “soulmate.” The couple became engaged the following year, and they tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England in 2018.

Just weeks ago, Meghan and Harry made a surprise appearance together during a virtual Oprah Daily event hosted by Gayle King. They shared how they’re managing parenthood by staying “present” with their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lili.

The couple spoke with authors Jonathan Haidt and Catherine Price about their new book, The Amazing Generation, which analyzes and provides solutions for the effects of smartphone and social media usage on children’s development.

Harry praised the authors on their research, calling it “incredibly valuable.”

“Over the years, we’ve worked with how the digital spaces [are] deeply affecting our collective and mental, emotional and physical health,” he said. “Obviously, a huge congratulations to you and the outcome of your research, which has created a parent-led movement, which is astonishing and much needed.”

Markle agreed, saying that she and Harry are “proud to be a part” of the movement. She also hinted at how she and Harry are implementing these practices.

“You were saying, you cannot replace the feeling of a deep, guttural belly laugh. An emoji laugh is not the same physiological response that we need, that our kids need,” she said. “What I love is that the more that we encourage our children to do this, we mimic those same behaviors. We also start to play, and we also start to be more present.”
