One is most amused, and informed
Channel 5 is continuing its deep dive into the modern monarchy, commissioning a new slate of royal documentaries from Naked (a Fremantle label) and Krempelwood — exploring two of the most enduring and intriguing relationships at the heart of the Royal Family.
Following the broadcast of Fergie and the Fake Sheikh Scandal, which revisited one of the most explosive royal controversies of recent decades, the new films shift focus to stories of resilience, devotion and public redemption — from Queen Camilla’s remarkable rise in popularity to the lifelong partnership of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
Camilla: Of the People for the People
Once labelled the most unpopular woman in Britain, Queen Camilla’s journey to becoming one of the monarchy’s most trusted and relatable figures is nothing short of extraordinary.
This intimate documentary charts her transformation from outsider to Queen Consort, examining how decades of scrutiny, scandal and personal loss shaped a royal role very different from any that came before.
Spanning more than 50 years of her relationship with His Majesty The King, the film looks beyond the headlines to reveal a story of endurance, reinvention and quiet strength — celebrating a woman who has redefined what it means to serve the Crown in the modern age.
Elizabeth and Philip: A Royal Fairytale
This film revisits one of the most enduring love stories in British history — the 73-year marriage between Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Through defining moments of duty, upheaval and global change, the documentary explores how their partnership not only survived immense pressure, but helped anchor the monarchy across generations.
Drawing on archive footage and expert insight, the film paints a portrait of love, loyalty and resilience at the heart of an institution constantly evolving.
Across both documentaries, archive material, candid testimony and contributions from biographers, historians and journalists combine to offer fresh insight into the royal figures and relationships that have shaped modern Britain.
Nicola Lloyd, Creative Director of Naked (a Fremantle label) and Executive Producer:
“We’re delighted to be producing three new royal documentaries for 5. The Royal Family has long captivated audiences not just in the UK but across the globe, and these films explore their stories in a way that’s both revealing and richly entertaining.”
Available now: Fergie and the Fake Sheikh Scandal
Airing last night on 5 and now available on streaming, Fergie and the Fake Sheikh Scandal revisits one of the most notorious media stings of the modern royal era.
Sarah Ferguson has spent much of her life under intense public scrutiny, and this gripping documentary examines the undercover operation involving journalist Mazher Mahmood, posing as the infamous ‘Fake Sheikh’.
The film explores allegations that the former Duchess of York appeared to offer access to Prince Andrew in exchange for £500,000 — a revelation that sparked a global media storm and left lasting consequences.
The documentaries have been commissioned by Federico Ruiz, Commissioning Editor for 5/Paramount. Executive Producers are Nicola Lloyd for Naked (a Fremantle label), and Blair Krempel and Mark Wood for Krempelwood.
