Priscilla Presley recalled her wedding day to Elvis Presley and revealed that a surprise he planned for her left her shocked and delighted.

    In a 1973 interview with Ladies Home Journal, Presley shared details of her nuptials to the King of Rock and Roll. She revealed that her soon-to-be husband gave her the surprise of a lifetime before they were pronounced man and wife.

    Priscilla told the outlet, “As a wedding present, Elvis flew in my mom [Ann Iversen] and dad [Paul Beaulieu] from his new post at Fort Ord, California. I remember how overwhelmed they were, how happy, too.”

    A total of 14 guests witnessed the ceremony, held at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. at 11:45 a.m. Standing up for the couple were his best men, Marty Lacker, and Joe Esposito, and Priscilla’s sister, Michelle Beaulieu. A larger breakfast reception followed, along with a press conference.

    In a video titled Elvis by the Presleys, Presley shared even more details about the day, as reported by PEOPLE Magazine. “This was the best kept secret,” she revealed. “It all had to be properly planned. … We didn’t want this out, because we didn’t want this to turn out to be a … circus.”

    “We were happy to be married, we were most happy that we pulled it off, we were happy that our friends and family were here,” she added. Priscilla previously told Ladies Home Journal that her parents were thrilled about her marriage, explaining, “They thought it was time. We had been dating for years!”

    Presley revealed that she and the King of Rock and Roll had previously talked about getting married “in stages.” However, that didn’t extinguish her delight when he finally proposed.

    She said, “One day he showed me the ring and simply asked me to marry him. Even though we were perfectly content the way we were, at that time it wasn’t nice for people to live together.”

    Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley were together for about eight years, from their first meeting in 1959 to their marriage in 1967. They welcomed their only child, Lisa Marie Presley, nine months to the day of their wedding, and the couple remained married until their divorce in 1973.
