Speaking to PEOPLE, Mario revealed the rule that helps keep his longterm marriage strong
The couple share daughter Gia and sons Dominic and Santino
Mario and Courtney Lopez credit one rule for keeping their marriage secure.
The longtime loves, who celebrated 13 years of marriage on Dec. 1, 2025, attended the World Premiere of Cirque Du Soleil LUDÕ at VidantaWorld in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on Dec. 12. While chatting with PEOPLE at the event, Mario, 52, revealed the unspoken rule he and Courtney, 43, follow that strengthens their relationship.
“We try to go without no more than two weeks without seeing each other,” Mario says, adding that not going “to bed angry” and making sure to “prioritize date nights” is also important.

Four years after meeting on Broadway in 2008, the couple said “I do” in 2012 in Punta Mita, Mexico — not far from their red carpet night out.
“This is a special place for us and we try to come on vacation here at least once a year,” Mario says. “We’ve got friends down here and we’re looking forward to this incredible resort.”
On Dec. 1, Mario and Courtney — who share 15-year-old daughter Gia Francesca, 12-year-old Dominic Luciano, and 6-year-old Santino Rafael — celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary through heartfelt tributes to each other on Instagram.
“13 yrs married baby! What a ride. I love our little family we’ve built! ♥️ here’s to eternity! 💍,” Courtney captioned two loved-up photos with her hubby, one being a close-up shot of the pair locking lips and the other of a near-kiss on their wedding day. “#ForeverMrsLopez,” she added in her post.
In his own post that day, Mario shared a clip of himself doing an impressive choreographed dance with Courtney to “Lovin on Me” by Jack Harlow as they matched in red and white Nikes with black laces.
“Married to my favorite person to laugh with, dance with, and get lost in the moment with,” the Saved by the Bell star wrote. “Still crazy about you… and still surprised you’re still putting up with me. Te quiero mucho mi amor. #HappyAnniversary.”

Back in 2017, Mario posted a video on YouTube in which he shared what he and Courtney do to “keep the romance alive.”
“I think it’s very important to never stop dating your wife,” Mario said at the time. “Just because you’re married and you have kids doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t romance your wife, or have special moments and getaways.”
He continued, “Here’s another tip. I think there should be rules when you fight, when you argue. Very important. I don’t think you should ever be disrespectful and swear, especially in front of the kids, or call each other names and cross those lines no matter how heated or passionate it gets.”
