Although this can be hard to prove on the royal stage, a former staff member who worked for The Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle has shed light on just how down-to-earth the couple really are. This goes back to her first-ever meeting with them, when she was applying to be Prince Archie’s nanny in 2019, not long after he was born. It is believed the couple, who were still working royals at the time, needed a nanny to help them when they were carrying out royal engagements at the same time.

This resulted in them holding interviews at their Frogmore Cottage home where they interviewed Lorren Khumalo, a paediatric nurse and consultant.

While Lorren expected it to be a formal interview and meeting, she revealed that she was surprised to turn up and be greeted by Prince Harry with a hug, with the duke also being barefoot in jeans and a T-shirt.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club with Zenzele Ndebele, Lorren said: “When I got there, the way he opened his arms ‘Hello Lorren!’ and gave me a hug. [I thought] ‘Wow, what a gentleman, what a gem’, oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe it.

“And when I walked in and saw Meghan I thought ‘My God, what a beautiful woman’. I just felt so comfortable, it wasn’t as formal as I expected it to be, it was just a normal home.”

It is believed she enjoyed her time working with Harry and Meghan, and being involved in the young Prince Archie’s life.

Meghan has also openly praised Archie’s former nanny, including in the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan.

Talking about Lorren, Meghan said: “She didn’t just take care of Archie she took care of us, she definitely took care of me.”
