(NewsNation) — “Saturday Night Live” star Marcello Hernandez is setting the record straight about his friendship with singer Sabrina Carpenter.
On the Jan. 26 episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Hernandez shut down rumors that he’s dating the “Short n’ Sweet” singer, clarifying that they’re only “pals.”

“I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She’s an architect. She’s unreal. She went to Yale,” Marcello, 28, said. “Sabrina’s awesome, she’s really funny and cool. She’s great.”
Hernandez is dating Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral, according to E! News.

He said the rumors began after the show’s “Domingo” sketch, in which Ariana Grande played a bachelorette party guest recounting how the bride had an affair with Hernandez’s character during a song set to Carpenter’s “Espresso.”
During “SNL50” and an October episode last year, Carpenter appeared in multiple follow-up sketches.

“The Domingo thing was big, and she was all about it, and it was so cool,” he told Shepard.
“Sabrina’s really down to clown. She’s down to think of something funny. She’s an actress… They’re so good, the young actors,” Hernandez said.
