I know that some of you are either tired of the literal references or feel like this press tour hasn’t offered many regular “in-between” looks, so consider this Vivienne Westwood Fall 1998 leather two-piece look, from the Time Machine collection, a deliberate palette cleanser. It feels entirely appropriate for a press junket, but the references are still very much there.
The look continues two trends we’ve seen throughout this tour: corsetry and historical references. The corset is familiar by now, while the mini-crini, inspired by the 19th-century crinoline, reflects Westwood’s reworking of period silhouettes into something deliberately provocative. As Westwood herself described it, the design was intended to be “cheeky” and “sexy,” drawing attention to the hips rather than disguising them.

The Mini-Crini is a significant piece of fashion history, as it captures Westwood’s talent for pulling historical dress out of the archive and reintroducing them with contemporary bite.
For those of you who wanted something less intense, and more modern between the heavier thematic moments, this was it.
