Berry, 59, announced the next milestone in their relationship during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, Feb. 5. The actress told host Jimmy Fallon that fans have some “confusion” about her and Hunt’s relationship status after their almost six years of dating.
“There’s some confusion that he asked to marry me and I said no,” Berry said.
“But, that’s not the case?” Fallon asked after Berry was interrupted by a “jealous” heckler in the audience.

“No, that’s not the case,” she said. “I did not say ‘no,’ we just don’t have a date. Of course, I said ‘yes, I would marry him.’ “
“I’m so happy, you guys are a great couple,” Fallon said. “Security, please have that guy taken out, bye,” he joked, referring to the heckler. “No. I’m so happy, you guys are a great couple. Congratulations.”
Showing her engagement ring, Berry said of Hunt, “Thank you. He did put a little ring on it.”
Fallon was visibly surprised by the size of the rock on Berry’s ring finger saying, “Oh, a little.”

Berry’s decision to publicly confirm her engagement to Hunt comes after he revealed back in June 2025 that he had already proposed to her, but she said no.
“I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” the singer-songwriter told Today.com after having his first joint interview with Berry on the June 4 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”
At the time, Berry rejected his proposal because of their past failed marriages.
The Catwoman star previously tied the knot three times. She was married to her first ex-husband, former MLB player David Justice, from 1993 to 1997; second ex-husband, singer-actor Eric Benét, from 2001 to 2005, and third ex-husband Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016.

Meanwhile, Hunt has been divorced once.
“We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” Berry told the outlet, later noting, “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
The duo first met in 2020 and bonded virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Berry made her relationship with Hunt Instagram official in September 2020 after months of teasing a new romance. She confirmed she was dating the “Seconds Of Pleasure” singer by sharing a cheeky photo of herself wearing Hunt’s tour merchandise.
“Now ya know… ♥️🦶🏽,” Berry wrote in the caption. Her foot emoji referenced two Instagram posts she shared in July 2020 and August 2020 of her feet playing footsie with her new beau.

At the time, a source told PEOPLE the couple had been seeing each other for “several months” and that he had met Berry’s two children. Berry shares 12-year-old son Maceo with ex Martinez. She’s also a mother to 17-year-old daughter Nahla, whom she shares with ex Gabriel Aubry.
Hunt and Berry made their red carpet debut together at the 2021 Academy Awards. Later that year in October, Berry gushed about Hunt at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, giving him a special shout out. “My love, love, love — my sweetheart,” she said. “I’ve never had a man that has lifted me up and let me be all that I am.”
The following month in November 2021, the pair had an impromptu “commitment ceremony,” performed by a then-8-year-old Maceo.
“This was a ceremony by an 8-year-old in the back seat of the car who said, ‘Mom, you should get married to him.’ I said, ‘Really, I should marry him?’ ” Berry explained on Live with Kelly and Ryan. “He said, ‘Yeah, I pronounce you man and wife.’ So we’re like, ‘Oh, okay. We’re married!’ But we’re not married. So, that’s our commitment ceremony.”

Over the years, the couple has been open about their love for one another at events and on social media.
In November 2021, Hunt detailed his favorite qualities about Berry in an essay published on Berry’s website “re-spin.”
“Halle waits on nothing and leads the rhythm where she wants it to go. She knows that magic is made, and she was not made for waiting on it to happen,” he wrote. “…There’s a fairytale quality to her generosity that unfolds like a shimmering Christmas morning.”
During the 4th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television, Berry called Hunt “the love of my life.” She said, “Because I failed so many times, I now know what [love] really looks like. And so my partner is here tonight, Van, and you have supported me.”
Berry echoed these sentiments in September 2024, telling Marie Claire that Hunt is her “person.” Of navigating their relationship, Berry said that it “took me a minute to get it right,” but “the nature of the way this happened, I have a real belief that this is it. This is my person.”
