It’s no secret that superstars like Taylor Swift live an outrageously lavish life, splurging their hard-earned money on multimillion-dollar mansions and traveling all over the world aboard a private jet. However, there’s regular rich, and then there’s Bill-Gates-is-my-dad rich. While the Microsoft co-founder and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates, who has had a head-turning transformation since their 2021 divorce, both insisted that they never spoiled their three children, Jennifer Gates, Rory Gates, and Phoebe Gates have likely never known anything but a life of wealth and privilege.
By the time Jennifer, the eldest, was born in 1996, Bill was already the wealthiest person on the planet and worth $18 billion — some of which he used to build a jaw-dropping 66,000-square-foot estate for his family on Lake Washington in Medina, Washington, at the time. So, although they weren’t allowed to have their own cell phones until they turned 14 years old, Jennifer and her siblings did grow up calling home a mansion with 24 bathrooms, six kitchens, and a private beach artificially made using sand from the Caribbean.
Jennifer downgraded a bit when she moved out of her family home, but when we say “downgrade,” we mean the “not quite a $131 million mansion but definitely still beyond what we can ever afford” type of digs. With a degree in human biology in hand, the then-22-year-old equestrian moved into the $16 million horse farm in upstate New York that she received as a gift from her parents for her 2018 graduation from Stanford University. The 124-acre estate later served as the venue for Jennifer and Olympic equestrian Nayel Nassar’s $2 million wedding, which featured a live Coldplay performance and three custom gowns that made her look just as radiant as other celebrities who stunned in Vera Wang wedding dresses.
Jennifer’s children are already enjoying the perks of being a billionaire’s grandkids
Two years after their wedding, Jennifer Gates and her husband, Nayel Nassar, welcomed their first child, daughter Leila, in February 2023. So how does a daughter of a billionaire celebrate such a momentous occasion? By upgrading from a $5 million Manhattan apartment to a $51 million triplex Manhattan penthouse, apparently. Jennifer and Nassar moved into their 8,900 square foot Tribeca property around the time they welcomed their daughter, so like her mom, Leila is likely used to living in homes that come with 20-foot-high ceilings, an indoor pool, and a Turkish bath. The same goes for Leila’s sister Mia, who joined the family in October 2024.
That same year, Jennifer graduated from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and began her pediatric residency. However, although she’s often working long shifts at the hospital, she’s made time to introduce her two children to her other passion: horses. Photos and videos on Jennifer’s Instagram show Leila and Mia having a blast at their Westchester farm, from feeding the horses carrots to helping groom them. And based on a clip Jennifer shared for her eldest’s second birthday in February 2025, the toddler is already comfortable riding horses.
Leila and Mia could easily follow in their parents footsteps someday, considering they already have all the resources a future competitive equestrian would need. To support Jennifer’s show jumping career, Bill and Melinda French Gates got her dressage horses (which can cost up to six figures), gave her a horse farm, and spent $38 million building an equestrian training compound. However, when it comes to career options, the sky’s the limit for them, which might just be the best perk of being a billionaire’s grandchild.
