In an unexpected move, the Princess of Wales has released a statement regarding the ongoing revelations surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and those who may have been associated with him. The BBC stated that a Kensington Palace spokesperson today (Monday 9 February) confirmed that ‘The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations.’ The statement continued to add that ‘Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.’

The comment hasn’t been widely shared on the couple’s official social media channels, but does follow an address from The King and Queen back in October, which echoed similar sentiments. A statement from Buckingham Palace said that ‘Their majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been and will remain with the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.’

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ statement is particularly poignant given that a member of the Royal Family, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly known as Prince Andrew) is under increased scrutiny for his connections to Epstein. After information began to come to light, Andrew was stripped of his titles and asked to leave his residence, Royal Lodge. The BBC said that, while Andrew was due to move out early this year, the process has been expedited and he is now already living on private property of The King in Sandringham.

‘His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,’ said Buckingham Palace on 30 October. ‘Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.’

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied any wrongdoing.
