Since America’s obsession with celebrity and cinema took off in the early 1900s, making it big in Hollywood has drawn many talented artists to the West Coast to make a name for themselves. As entertainment grew, so did people’s hunger for movie stars, hit singers and bands, and more.

For nearly 60 years, the ultimate sign of success has come in the form of a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, a 1.5-mile stretch of sidewalk on Hollywood Ave and Vine Street that features nearly 3,000 pink stars with the biggest names in showbiz permanently enshrined in concrete for all to see.

Considering that each year about 24 new additions to the Walk of Fame, there are at least a few entertainers from Michigan bound to be among the stars.

Many of Michigan’s featured entertainers are acclaimed musical artists from the Motown era, like Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Temptations, and Stevie Wonder. But there are many film and television stars like Kristen Bell, Tom Selleck, and more, from silent movies to animated hits from the early 1900s to now.

Detroit is definitely the hitmaker for Michigan, but stars come from all over, including one from Grand Rapids you’ve probably never heard of.
