Former Little Mixer Jesy Nelson has bravely recalled the moment she hit rock bottom – her mum phoned 999 after a slurred phone-call after Jesy declared her bandmates didn’t care about her
Jesy was rushed to hospital after hitting rock bottom
Jesy Nelson has revealed she hit her lowest point ever just before she quit Little Mix. Her family and friends feared for her safety when her bandmates shut her out and left her feeling like ‘no-one cared’ about her. This resulted in Jesy taking drastic actions and being dashed to hospital in an ambulance.
Jesy had sat her bandmates Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock down to express how unhappy she felt in the band, having struggled to come back into the spotlight and deal with online attention after spending months at home in quarantine during Covid.
Speaking on her Prime documentary Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix, the singer remembered: “I basically just sat everyone down and I just explained how I was feeling.

“I just felt like no-one cared… And I remember one of their responses being like ‘are you done now, is that it?’
“I was like ‘okay’ and she was like ‘can I go now?’ I remembering feeling like ‘woah’ and that just made me feel alone and like there’s no point to this, no-one cares.”
Her mum Janice was desperately trying to reach Jesy as she knew she was in a dark place.

Janice recalled: “A few days before she had just been down, really down, and not talking much, and I think she was seeing horrible things written about her again.
“She just wanted to be on her own quite a lot, I just got a gut feeling that something wasn’t right and so I kept ringing and ringing and then I wasn’t getting no answer
“She eventually answered the phone but she was talking really slurry and then I could just hear the phone drop and then I didn’t hear anything else. I knew she’d done something.
“An ambulance was called, we went to hospital with her.”

Jesy has spoken openly about her mental health struggles, having previously taken an overdose following X Factor and being bullied online.
Once she was discharged from hospital Jesy took official steps to leave the band, which ultimately also ended her friendship with the girls as they found out via her lawyer.
Jesy said: “I just was so sad, like I was so down, I knew from that moment anyway that I just mentally couldn’t do it.
“And before I could even have a discussion with the girls I needed to figure out where I was legally, in terms of like could I even come out of it now? Unfortunately the lawyer ended up letting them know that I wanted to leave before I could even let them now so I think they felt really hurt by that, and it should never have played out like that.”
She’s never sat down with her former bandmates as at the time they requested a therapist to be present in the room, which left Jesy feeling like she’d lost her “sisters”.
Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix is on Prime Video now.
