When it comes to Valentine’s Day, some celebrities spare no expense.
After all, why give just a bouquet of roses when you can get Kenny G to serenade your love in front of dozens and dozens of roses in your living room, like what Kanye West dreamed up for his then-wife Kim Kardashian in 2019? There’s also the move John Legend and Tarek El Moussa have in common: whisking their ladies off for a mystery date.
It’s admittedly not always easy to come up with the perfect gift, which may be why the simple chocolate-and-flowers combo just won’t do for some stars. From Simone Biles’ bright lights to MGK’s vile of his now-ex’s blood, going above and beyond for your significant other is the only way for the high-profile to celebrate love.
Here are some of the celebrities who put their money — or their literal flesh and blood — where their heart is to make a grand statement on the romantic holiday.

To celebrate their first holiday together, Owens staged giant lit-up letters spelling “love” and surrounded them with a stunning balloon arrangement. Biles posted a photo on Instagram of the pair kissing in front of the display alongside the caption: “lucky to be loved by you 💘.”
The Olympian shared on Instagram Stories that they also enjoyed a romantic dinner for two and that Owens decorated her bed with rose petals spelling out “I [heart] you.”
Biles and Owens announced their engagement on Valentine’s Day 2022 and got married in April 2023.

Dwayne Johnson was nearly shocked to tears when he received a gigantic bouquet of flowers from his family on Valentine’s Day in 2021.
The Moana actor posted a photo of the enormous arrangement, which also came with a sweet card.
“🌺💐🌹🌸 Full transparency, I was shocked when this stunning arrangement arrived and I realized they were for ME from my girls. Then I read the card * swipe left * and that’s when I MAY have gotten a little 🥺🥺,” Johnson wrote on Instagram, referring to the card written “in code” shown on the second slide.
The WWE star continued, “I’m at a point in my crazy life that when people I love and care about show me the smallest of efforts — kind and caring — that stuff really moves me. Kindness. Caring. Effort.”
“Once I got my s— together with no more 🥺 I was able to take this picture 🤣🤣. Happy Valentine’s Day, my ❤️s!!! t.m.t.m.s.p. 🖤,” he jokingly added.

Don’t expect a dinky paper card from Chip Gaines — his love for Joanna Gaines is Texas big! He has a tradition of leaving larger-than-life messages for his wife, whom he wed in 2003, on one of the Silos at Magnolia Market in their hometown of Waco, Texas.
In 2019, he wrote “Chip Hearts Jo” in massive green lettering, sharing a photo of the display on Instagram. Then, in 2020, he went classic, writing their initials, C+J, in a big red heart pierced with an arrow.
Joanna shared the latter grand gesture on Instagram, captioning her photo of the giant love note, “I love you too @chipgaines 🥰 #happyvalentinesday.”

Surprising loved ones with mystery trips is apparently a thing among celebrity couples, and that’s just what Legend did for his wife, Chrissy Teigen, in 2015.
“I’m on my magical mystery date! Luckiest girl alive,” Teigen captioned a photo on Instagram of the two on a jet plane on Feb. 14 of that year.
No word on where they landed. However, the Cravings by Chrissy Teigen founder and cookbook author previously told PEOPLE in 2014 that her dream Valentine’s Day was “cheesy.”
“I like cheesy. Flowers. Chocolates. Candlelit dinner,” she said. “The entire day is cheeseball. Just go with it!”

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck celebrated their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple by getting new tattoos in 2023. (After initially splitting up in 2004, they rekindled their romance in 2021 and got married in a small ceremony in July 2022.)
A set of photos shared by Lopez in a since-deleted Instagram post featured the Kiss of the Spider Woman star showing off her new ink, which sat above her ribcage: an infinity sign that appeared to have the names “Jennifer” and “Ben” written in cursive, as well as an arrow through the middle of the symbol.
The photos also revealed Affleck’s tattoo, which featured two crossed arrows. The letter “J” appeared above the arrows, while the letter “B” was written below.
Lopez captioned the post: “Commitment ♾️ Happy Valentine’s Day my love 🤍.”
Unfortunately, the relationship wasn’t as permanent as a tattoo — Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and the former couple’s divorce was finalized in February 2025.

In 2021, Michael B. Jordan went above and beyond to create the greatest first Valentine’s Day experience for then-girlfriend Lori Harvey.
The Sinners star rented out an aquarium so they could enjoy each other’s company privately and hired the luxury Japanese eatery Nobu to prepare their dinner. The dreamy setup included plenty of rose petals and candles, creating a whimsical and romantic atmosphere for their unforgettable date night.
The festivities carried over to their hotel room, which was filled with more flowers and candles. Harvey documented the stunning surprises on Instagram Stories, showing red rose petals covering their bed and all around a bubble bath.
However, Jordan saved the best for last, presenting Harvey with a certified slip showing that he purchased stock in the luxury fashion label Hermès in Harvey’s name.
“The best gift ever…baby bought me stocks in Hermès 🥺❤️,” Harvey captioned a photo of the Hermès stock certificate.
Jordan and Harvey later called it quits in June 2022.

Although they finalized their divorce in November 2022, West and Kardashian really set the bar high when it came to gift-giving.
In 2019, the rapper-producer surprised Kardashian with a sweet serenade from world-renowned saxophonist Kenny G in their living room. Kardashian was stunned as she filmed the truly beyond-belief moment and posted the clip on X (formerly Twitter).
The video showed the musician performing as he stood in the middle of a room filled with white, pink and red roses placed in individual vases.
“NO BIG DEAL KENNY G IN MY LIVING ROOM!!! Happy Valentines Day,” the reality star wrote.
West went all out again the following year, treating Kardashian to a romantic trip to Mexico. The mom of four — the exes share daughters North and Chicago and sons Saint and Psalm — shared snaps from their 2020 getaway, including photos of herself enjoying the beach and breathtaking views from their hotel room.

Cardi shared her surprises with her fans on Instagram Stories, showing dozens of heart-shaped balloons floating around her bedroom and a balloon decoration that spelled out the word “love.”
“Feeling love, I’m feeling love,” Cardi said.
Then, a few days later, Cardi revealed that Offset continued their celebrations by booking a beach getaway with daughter Kulture Kiari. (They later welcomed two more children: son Wave Set, born September 2021, and daughter Blossom, born September 2024.) The “WAP” artist shared several photos of the trip on Instagram, including a Patek Philippe watch that her husband gifted her for the romantic holiday.
