As Valentine’s day arrives, most normal people have been spending the preceding weeks buying presents, writing cards or pruning bouquets to give to their loved ones. We the good people at Dazed Fashion however, have been endlessly trawling the annals of history to rediscover the most stylish celebrity couples of all time – because nothing says true love like a bit of aesthetic harmony.
There’s the vintage couples like David Bowie and Iman, or Mick and Bianca Jagger, who were always coolly coordinated but in an unfussy way; musicians like Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, whose grungy outfits stuck a middle finger to the world; or Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, whose free-spirited style was telegraphed in touselled locs and jade accessories.
The 90s saw a boom of snappily dressed couples dominate headlines: JFK Jr. and his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy were icons of American minimalism, while the Beckhams flew the flag for British gaudiness on the other side of the pond. Move on to today, though, and a new era of celebs are snatching the style headlines – think Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, FKA twigs and Jordan Hemingway, or Lily-Rose Depp and 070 Shake. So, while styles may have evolved over the years, the concept of the fashion forward power couple has remained absolute, and for that we thank them for their service.
