Disney and Lucasfilm have just announced that the main trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to release tomorrow, Feb. 17, a move likely planned to capitalize on the word of mouth carried by the Super Bowl spot that aired a week ago.
The announcement was made via a 15-second spot filled with semi-new footage, which you can check out below:
The film is a little over three months away. Last week, three new tie-in visual guides were announced, and Jon Favreau spoke to Polygon about the challenges of bringing the Disney Plus series to the big screen. He said:
“Okay, we presented a cinematic experience on the small screen. We have to up our game now to the movie theater. That means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of that, making the visual effects of the quality and caliber that we have to notch everything up. And then the storytelling as well.”
He also teased that Grogu’s journey will continue from Jedi apprentice, to Mandalorian apprentice, to now Din’s companion:
“Grogu has leveled up a bit. We saw that he trained with Luke, and time has passed. So he’s got a little of the Jedi influence. And then he’s also an apprentice Mandalorian. So now it’s time for dad to bring him on adventures. And pretty soon there will be a few more clues out there in the world.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to release on May 22, 2026. It is directed by Jon Favreau, written by Favreau and Dave Filoni, and produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Favreau, Filoni, and Ian Bryce. The film stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as Sgt. Ward, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, Jonny Coyne as an as-of-right-now unnamed Imperial Warlord, among others that haven’t been confirmed yet. Ludwig Göransson will compose the film’s score.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as movies from Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
