The cause of death for Victoria Jones – daughter of Hollywood legend Tommy Lee Jones – has finally been revealed more than a month after she was found dead in a San Francisco hotel.
The 34‑year‑old was discovered unresponsive on the 14th floor of the Fairmont Hotel in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
On Tuesday, the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner released a long‑awaited report stating Victoria died from the ‘toxic effects of cocaine,’ and officially ruled her death an accidental overdose.
Victoria – who had lived a largely private life despite her famous father – is survived by her parents, Academy Award‑winning actor Jones, 79, her mother and Tommy’s ex‑wife Kimberlea Cloughley, and her brother Austin Jones, 43.
In the hours after her death was made public, the family released a simple statement asking for privacy, saying, ‘We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you.’
Two years before her death, the Men in Black star petitioned a California court in an effort to protect his daughter through a temporary conservatorship.

According to the Marin County Superior Court docket reviewed by the Daily Mail, Jones filed the petition on August 7, 2023, seeking to establish a conservatorship for Victorria.
The Marin County Superior Court confirmed to the Daily Mail that Tommy filed in Probate Court.
The public docket doesn’t reveal the exact circumstances that led to the filing, and medical records and supporting declarations remain confidential.
At the time of the filing, however, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Victoria was being held at a hospital in Greenbrae under a 14-day psychiatric hold after authorities determined she could be a danger to herself or others.
The outlet also noted that Tommy’s petition said his daughter was appealing the hold and requested that a conservator arrange for her transfer to a drug rehabilitation facility ‘immediately upon her release.’
After a judge granted the request, Tommy later asked the court to dismiss the matter, per the outlet.
The docket shows the judge officially terminated the conservatorship on December 18, 2023.
In the wake of Victoria’s death, troubling details about her final months surfaced, including encounters with law enforcement.

The Daily Mail obtained a June mugshot showing what appears to be a bruise under her eye.
She was arrested twice in 2025. In April, Napa Valley authorities conducted a wellness check and charged her with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.
Court documents note a plastic bag containing a white substance – believed to be cocaine – was found in her pocket at booking.
She pleaded not guilty and had been scheduled to appear in court later this month.
In June, Victoria was arrested again following a domestic violence incident at Napa’s Carneros Resort and Spa, where rooms start at around $500 per night.
Separate court filings also show she faced allegations of elder abuse, to which she also pleaded not guilty.
Victoria was discovered at the Fairmont after a hotel guest reportedly mistook her for being intoxicated and alerted staff.
Employees attempted CPR and called paramedics. A 911 call described the incident as a ‘code 3 for the overdose, color change.’

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department confirmed: ‘On 1/1/26 at approximately 3:14 a.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to a hotel located on the 900 block of Mason Street regarding a report of a deceased person.
At the scene, officers met with medics, who declared the adult female deceased. The Medical Examiner arrived on scene and conducted an investigation.’
Victoria was born in 1991 and made her screen debut at age 11 with a cameo in her father’s Men in Black II (2002).
She later appeared in a 2005 episode of One Tree Hill and that same year in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, directed by her father.
Though she stepped away from acting as an adult, Victoria occasionally joined Tommy on the red carpet, including the 2017 premiere of Just Getting Started and the Tokyo International Film Festival later that year.
After directing Victoria in his film, Tommy praised her talents in a 2006 interview, calling her ‘a good actress’ who spoke ‘impeccable Spanish.’
The actor won his only Oscar in 1994 for The Fugitive, which he starred in alongside Harrison Ford.
