A new juicy biography, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, has revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton clashed over what to name their first child, Prince George, and that Kate had her heart set on an entirely different name – with equally royal connotations.
In his deep-dive, Russell Myers reveals that “one thing [William and Catherine] couldn’t concur on was a name”.
The royal expert says that, “Catherine had her heart set on Alexander for a boy or Alexandra (also Queen Elizabeth’s middle name) for a girl” and that the couple spent hours combing through lists of names, inspired by a book gifted by a close friend.

Myers alleges that one royal insider claimed William would often joke with his staff by pretending the names ‘Rodney’ and ‘Graham’ were on the cards, when in actuality “the future king, who favoured a more traditional route for his heir, settled on a shortlist of two names for a boy: George and Louis”.
Sadly, it seems the Prince won out when it came to naming George then! However, his middle name is Alexander, so Catherine’s choice was still including in that capacity.
