A tell-all royal biography, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, has revealed the unusual secret nickname that King Charles used for his son, Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

It’s no secret that Meghan and Harry have been estranged from the royals for years, detailing in Oprah interviews, via Netflix specials and in a memoir that Meghan’s treatment by the British tabloids was a driving force in their decision to step away from their roles as senior working royals – as well as the lacklustre, in their eyes, response from other family members throughout.

According to Russell Myers, Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Sophie, then the Countess of Wessex, did initially try to help Meghan when she first entered into royal life, by Myers claims that “their ‘repeated attempts’ were not responded to”.

He adds that Charles also made a special effort with Meghan, even going so far as to “give her the nickname ‘Tungsten’, in reference to the metal known for being tough and unbending under extreme pressure”.

A former royal staffer reveals in the books, “He [Charles] was very fond of her and in the early days found her charming to be around. Meghan was engaging, polite and was clearly in love with his son, so there were certainly no apparent issues he felt the need to address.”

The latest reports on the state of Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royals suggests that Catherine is attempting to mend the rift, and that there are hopes the family could all reconcile when the Sussexes may head over to the UK this summer as part of Harry’s work relating to the Invictus Games.
