Samara Weaving is back on our screens in horror sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come next month, and she’s already got another movie lined up for release very soon. Ahead of its world premiere at SXSW, we’ve been treated to the chaotic trailer for Over Your Dead Body, which you can watch above.

Directed by Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone, the comedy thriller follows a dysfunctional couple (Weaving and Jason Segel) who head to a remote cabin to apparently salvage their relationship, but actually they both have secret plans to kill each other.

Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t quite go to plan and based on the trailer, all hell breaks loose at the cabin, leaving both of them fighting for their lives. But will either of them survive?

“Jorma Taccone stands as one of the most creative and reliably brilliant voices in comedy and we are delighted to collaborate with him and our friends at 87North, XYZ, and Resolute Films on Over Your Dead Body,” said Scott Shooman, head of Independent Film Group, distributor of the movie in the US.

“The film is a dark, twisted, and riotous action comedy, with a killer cast – a perfect recipe to delight audiences on the big screen.”

If Over Your Dead Body’s plot sounds familiar, it might be because you’ve seen Nordic comedy horror-thriller The Trip, which was released on Netflix in October 2021.

The new movie is an English-language remake which was originally set to be directed by Tommy Wirkola, who directed the first movie. However, Taccone then took over as director, but Wirkola stayed on board as an executive producer.

The Trip was praised as “inventive cinema” by The Post NZ, with Common Sense Media saying that the movie is “loaded with entertaining plot twists great and small”.

Over Your Dead Body does not yet have a UK release date. It will be released in US cinemas on 24 April, following its world premiere at SXSW.
