This summer, Alan Cumming is preparing to reprise his role as Sandy Frink for the reunion of all reunions.
The 2x Golden Globe nominee recently gave a filming update for the upcoming sequel to Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion (1997), in which he is set to reunite with co-stars Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino.
“And then, this summer, we’re going to do the sequel of Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion,” said Cumming on the Jennifer Hudson Show.
In January 2025, Deadline reported that Kudrow and Sorvino were in final negotiations to reprise their roles as the eponymous characters of two lifelong best friends who return to their Tucson high school for their 10-year reunion to show their high school bullies how much better their lives are now.
The actresses will also executive produce, with Tim Federle attached to direct. Original scribe Robin Schiff returned to pen the sequel.
Last year, Kudrow revealed that Schiff had turned in a “really good” script for the followup, on which they were close as we’ve ever been,” adding: “So it’ll happen, I mean, we’ll see.”
Also starring Janeane Garofalo, Justin Theroux, Elaine Hendrix and Camryn Manheim, the first movie has become a cult classic over the near 30 years since it released.
