The world premiere of Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre in LA last night, with leading ladies Kiersey Clemons, Mari Yamamoto and Anna Sawai in attendance.

Romantic Volume, Reworked
Kiersey Clemons is known for her love of all things black and her alternative fashion leanings, so I was genuinely surprised to see her pivot in this Viviano Fall 2025 pink and red floral-print gown. It is unapologetically voluminous, but she is neither phased nor overwhelmed. Cinching the gown at the waist and slightly refining the A-line silhouette gives the look a clearer shape and dimension. From the ruffled neckline to the exaggerated bubble hem I simply adore this look.

Slick and Sculpted
Mari Yamamoto’s look was the complete opposite in this Glenn Martens for Maison Margiela Spring 2026 design. The bodice, crafted using the Plasticisation technique first seen in the Artisanal 2025 show, delivers a high-gloss, almost armour-like finish, balanced by a draped satin skirt. It feels far more impactful than a standard black gown would have been. This aligns perfectly with the darker energy of the series.

Sheer, But To What End?
Even without comparing Anna Sawai’s look to her co-stars, this pale green sheer dress is incredibly underwhelming. From the drab, muted tone to the flimsy construction and visible underpinnings, nothing quite settles. The colour does her no favours under these lights. We have seen her deliver far stronger red carpet moments, which makes this feel like a rare misstep rather than a risk that paid off.
