If you’ve been craving a creature feature set in the middle of a snowy wastland and something massive lurking just out of sight, you’re going to want to check this out.
Well Go USA has dropped the full official trailer for The Yeti, an indie horror thriller that takes a swing at the legendary abominable snowman and drops him straight into the frozen wilds of Alaska.
Directed by Gene Gallerano and William Pisciotta, the film digs into the mythology of the mythical snow monster, often described as a distant cousin of Sasquatch. But instead of leaning into camp, this one plays things cold and grim.
The story is set in the late 1940s. Explorers Merriell Sunday Sr. and Hollis Bannister vanish without a trace somewhere in the Alaskan wilderness. Years later, their children Ellie and Merriell Jr. head north with a team of seasoned trackers to uncover what really happened.
Of course, the icy terrain isn’t their only problem. Something ancient is stalking them through the snow, hunting the hunters as they search for answers.
The trailer focuses heavily on the tension within the group and the isolation of the setting. It sets up a massive ensemble cast that includes Brittany Allen, Corbin Bernsen, Eric Nelsen, William Sadler, Heather Lind, Jim Cummings, Christina Bennett Lind, Elizabeth Cappuccino, and Linc Hand.
There are barely any shots of the Yeti in the trailer, but he’s definitely in there. The marketing leans into mystery, letting the atmosphere, the fear, and the brutal setting do most of the work. You catch glimpses, shadows, movement in the trees, and that’s about it. Sometimes less is more.
If you’re into cryptid horror, creature features, or survival thrillers set in extreme environments, The Yeti looks like it might scratch that itch. It’s got an old-school monster movie premise mixed with a period setting and a survival story that could get pretty brutal.
The movie is set to be released on April 10.
