Work-life balance? Gnarly. KATSEYE announced on social media Friday that Manon Bannerman would be taking a temporary hiatus from the group. “After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing,” the statement read. “We fully support this decision. KATSEYE remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us.” The group also assured Eyekons that they’re still showing up for any scheduled activities in the meantime.
Bannerman has spoken previously about her health and how people perceive her work ethic. “I get sick all the time,” she said in the spring fashion issue of New York. “America has a very different culture when it comes to work-life balance. You guys are all about grind and hustle.” In Bannerman’s home country of Switzerland, she says “if you’re sick, you take a day off. No one’s going to expect you to work.” She also said there was a racial dynamic to critiques of her performance on Pop Star Academy, the Netflix reality show that birthed KATSEYE. “Being called lazy, especially as a Black girl, is not fair,” she said. “Now I feel like I always need to put in extra work to prove something, even though I really don’t.”
