‘The View’ host Alyssa Farah Griffin welcomes first child

“The View” cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin has welcomed her first child, a baby boy, with husband Justin Griffin.

“The View” cohosts seldom agree, but they’ve seemingly reached a consensus about weight-loss drugs.

The women, including guest Savannah Chrisley, had the opportunity to dish on GLP-1s after a clip of Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker seemingly dodging a reporter’s question about the medication was shown.

“In (Pritzker’s) state, he expanded GLP-1 coverage for state employees with taxpayer dollars. So, you can’t do that while not answering those tough questions about GLP-1s,” Chrisley said during the Feb. 18 episode of the daytime talk show. “And GLP-1s, I’m in the business of selling GLP-1s, so there is no shame around it.”

“That’s the thing,” Chrisley added. “That has been something that people are made to feel so much shame around doing, and it isn’t. People do it for health-related reasons. I personally did it because I was pre-diabetic.”

As Sunny Hostin jotted down some details about Chrisley’s company Good Girl Rx, which sells weight-loss drugs, fellow cohosts Whoopi Goldberg, 70, and Joy Behar, 83, couldn’t help but chime in, revealing that they, too, had lost substantial weight thanks to GLP-1s.

“We all did it,” Behar, who admitted to losing 25 pounds on a GLP-1, said, with Goldberg adding, “All at this table.”

“GLP-1s are cool,” Chrisley concluded.

What are GLP-1s?

GLP-1s are FDA-approved drugs used to help lower blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, according to the Cleveland Clinic. These medications are also used to help people lose weight.

“At this time, there is no other medication like GLP-1s that consistently produces the degree of sustainable, clinically meaningful weight loss while improving metabolic markers,” Dr. Asad Niazi, internal medicine physician and medical advisor at Shed, previously told USA TODAY.

The majority of GLP-1s are injectable, and they usually come in pen-like syringes with short needles designed to target the subcutaneous region, or the deep fatty layer of your skin, for best absorption. If users don’t like shots, pill forms of certain GLP-1s are also available.

Although GLP-1s have become popular of late, the drugs also carry side effects, including:

Nausea or vomitingDiarrhea or constipationHeartburn or bloatingFatigueDehydrationMuscle loss

Patients may also experience hair thinning with higher doses for prolonged periods, especially when paired with low-calorie intake. However, more uncommon but serious side effects, like acute pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) and gallbladder issues, need immediate medical attention.

While weight regain isn’t a side effect, it may be an issue when stopping GLP-1 medication abruptly once users have reached their goals.
