Halle Berry & Zendaya: Two Generations of Trailblazers

Halle Berry and Zendaya sit on two ends of the same trailblazing timeline for Black actresses in Hollywood. In 2002 Berry became the first Black woman to win the Best Actress Oscar for Monster’s Ball, calling the moment a door opening for “every woman of color.” Nearly two decades later, Zendaya made her own history with Euphoria, becoming the youngest woman, and only the second Black woman, to win the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series—twice. They haven’t yet shared a screen, but are often mentioned together as proof that what seemed impossible for one generation can become normal for the next.
