The sports-oriented miniseries, which focuses on the members of a middle-school co-ed softball team, was nominated for six honors at the 53rd Annual Annie Awards:

Best TV Media – Limited Series

Best Character Animation – TV/Media

Best Character Design – TV/Media

Best Music – TV/Media

Best Storyboarding – TV/Media

Best Writing – TV/Media

The Best TV Media – Limited Series category was dominated by Disney, with four Disney+ series nominated. Alongside Win or Lose, Marvel Zombies, Star Wars: Visions – Volume 3, and Eyes of Wakanda were also in contention for the honor.

Win or Lose ultimately won, specifically for its eighth episode and series finale, titled “Home.” It also captured the award for Best Music – TV/Media for its music by Ramin Djawadi, who also scored the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Iron Man and Eternals.

While Disney overall also had several Annie Award nominations for the films Elio (which earned 10 nominations) and Zootopia 2, both were shut out of any wins.

Win or Lose premiered on Disney+ on February 19, 2025, after originally being slated for a 2023 release. The series had already been in the news multiple times before its release, after an article from The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that a story arc involving a transgender character was removed from the show. After the initial report, former Pixar employees spoke out about the change, claiming the alteration may have been politically motivated.

Additionally, Win or Lose features the first openly-Christian character in a Disney film or series in almost 20 years.

All eight episodes of the series are streaming on Disney+. Watch the trailer below:
