In a move that makes you think, “Wait, how hasn’t that happened yet?”, Winona Ryder will join season three of Netflix’s Wednesday. The streamer shared the news this morning that Ryder will join the cast as “Tabitha”, along with the confirmation that the series is back in production. However, it’s a role that seems poised to be bigger than one of the last season’s big guest stars, Lady Gaga. Ryder’s character will appear in multiple episodes of the third season.

Though this is Ryder’s first time acting on screen with the Addamses, a Netflix series from Tim Burton is a pretty intuitive place for her to be. Ryder just wrapped up nearly a decade of starring in Netflix’s one-time flagship series, Stranger Things. She also appeared in Burton’s classic Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, reuniting with him and working with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega on 2024’s legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Ryder and Ortega were constantly talking about how much they enjoyed working together while promoting the movie, with Ortega saying (via People), “The way Winona and I got along was quite weird. It was like we were reading each other’s minds a little bit.” Ryder also told the Los Angeles Times that she almost cried when Ortega referenced Soviet director Mikhail Kalatozov on set.

Hopefully they can tap into that same energy at Wednesday, which is now in production in Dublin. Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, and Kennedy Moyer were also confirmed today to join the cast, along with the previously announced Eva Green as Morticia’s sister Ophelia. Netflix also shared a video announcing the new cast members, which you can see below.
