Kane Parsons’ viral YouTube horror universe known as Backrooms is headed to the big screen courtesy of A24 and producer James Wan, and we’ve now got a release date.
A24 will release Backrooms in theaters on May 29, 2026.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve will lead the cast of director Kane Parsons’ Backrooms, with Mark Duplass (“The Creep Tapes”), Finn Bennett (“True Detective”), Lukita Maxwell (Afraid) and Avan Jogia (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) also starring.
The science fiction horror film is based on the world of Kane Parsons’s viral videos. The film plot is being kept under wraps. The press release detailed, “Kane Parsons is a 19-year-old director and VFX artist. His viral found footage YouTube series The Backrooms has amassed nearly 100 million views. Parsons will direct the film over his Summer vacation.”
A24, Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment are joining forces on the project, with Will Soodik and Roberto Patino writing.
James Wan and Michael Clear are producing for Wan’s Atomic Monster.
