Celebrity longevity doctor Peter Attia has resigned from his contributor role at CBS News following the release of court documents revealing inappropriate messages exchanged with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The stepping down comes amid mounting backlash after Attia’s name appeared in recently unsealed Epstein files.
Peter Attia resigns after Epstein backlash, claims report
According to a statement from Peter Attia’s spokesperson, the decision to resign was mutual to avoid distractions at CBS. “Dr. Attia’s contributor role was newly established and had not yet meaningfully begun,” the spokesperson claimed. “As such, he stepped back to ensure his involvement didn’t become a distraction from the important work being done at CBS. He wishes the network and its leadership well and has no further comment at this time,” they added (via CNN).
The controversy stems from newly released Epstein files showing lewd exchanges between Attia and the sex offender. In one 2016 message, Attia wrote, “P*ssy is, indeed, low-carb. Still awaiting results on gluten content, though.” The messages have led to major backlash from fans and observers.
Peter Attia had been announced in January as one of 19 new contributors under CBS News chief Bari Weiss’ strategic overhaul. Weiss had previously featured Attia on her podcast Honestly, praising him for cutting through industry noise. During a January town hall announcing the new hires, Weiss emphasized the need for change, stating, “Our strategy until now has been to cling to the audience that remains on broadcast television. If we stick to that strategy, we’re toast.”
Despite initial indications that Weiss might allow Attia to remain, the pressure proved insurmountable after the Epstein connections emerged. Attia addressed the situation on X earlier in February, denying involvement in criminal activity. “To be clear, I never witnessed illegal behavior and never saw anyone who appeared underage in his presence,” he wrote. Attia added he never visited Epstein’s island or attended his sex parties. Attia has not faced any criminal charges.
