Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced that they would be stepping down as senior royals in January 2020. But according to a resurfaced clip analyzed by a professional lip reader, the seeds of ‘Megxit’ may have been planted much earlier…

In his new book William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, Russell Myers claimed that the atmosphere between Prince Harry, Meghan, Prince William, and Kate Middleton was “toxic” following Prince Harry and Meghan’s 2018 royal wedding. And that alleged tension has long been cited as one of the main reasons behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s eventual royal exit.

Were Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Discussing ‘Megxit’ In Resurfaced Clip From 2018 Service Of Remembrance?

A very interesting resurfaced clip from the Service of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey in November 2018 was analyzed by lip reading expert Nicola Hickling in the Lip-Reading The Royals: The Secret Conversations documentary which aired on Channel 5.

One key moment appears to show the former Suits actress seemingly telling her husband that he needs to “do it tonight.”

While there is no absolute confirmation about what she was referring to, Hickling speculated in the documentary that Meghan could have been encouraging him to speak to his family about their future.

Meghan Markle Reportedly Told Prince Harry To ‘Take Advantage Of The Situation’

According to Hickling’s analysis, the With Love, Meghan star appeared to tell the Spare author to “take advantage of the situation,” before allegedly adding: “Do it tonight.”

Hickling claims Prince Harry responded: “Today?” before later asking: “You do realize that this is the end?” to which the As Ever founder seemingly replied: “Yeah, I do know.”

In the same documentary, royal historian Tessa Dunlop suggests that, if accurate, exchanges like this could suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan had been contemplating their departure from the royal family well before their January 2020 announcement.

The Late Queen Elizabeth II Shut Down Prince Harry’s Request To Be A ‘Half In, Half Out’ Royal

Ahead of their official announcement in January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly had multiple discussions with senior members of the royal family about their future. They reportedly hoped to step back as senior royals and become financially independent, while still continuing to support the late Queen.

They reportedly proposed a so-called ‘half in, half out’ role that would have seen them splitting their time between royal duties and private ventures. However, as we now know, the late Queen Elizabeth II would not allow it!

The Daily Mail previously reported at the time that the Queen told her grandson: “You work for the monarchy, the monarchy doesn’t work for you.”

Another insider was quoted as saying: “The Queen has been very clear from the start that this ‘half in, half out’ model demanded by the Sussexes wouldn’t work and hasn’t deviated from that. Not once. Their original idea was to have a ‘third way’ of being a royal. And the Queen has said quite simply ‘no, you can’t.'”
