Former Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard was seen in tears as she issued an emotional update as she continues to recover from surgery.

The 68 year old actress revealed earlier this month that she had been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer during a candid interview on Ireland’s Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty. Soon after, she flew back to the UK to undergo an operation to remove lymph nodes as precaution.

A week on from her surgery, Beverley appeared in a video to issue an update to her followers on Instagram – in which she tearfully revealed she was struggling. Beverley, who appeared makeup-free for the Instagram clip, candidly told her followers: “Full disclosure, it’s a week today since my operation and I woke up this morning and I put yesterday’s clothes on – which were dropped on the floor last night when I went to bed. I’ve not cleaned my teeth, I’ve not combed my hair. I can’t answer my phone because if somebody says a kind word to me, I just cry.”

Holding back tears she continued: “And I’m so absolutely, absolutely rubbish today and I’ve been like that all day. I’m really tired, I keep feeling a bit queasy but I’ve no idea why. And I just thought, ‘oh well I’m not going to post anything today because I don’t want to make people feel miserable’ – but maybe you are feeling the same.”

The soap actress then revealed she had received a touching letter from a supporter as she emotionally continued: “And, then – you wouldn’t believe this – I received this today in the post purely out of the blue.” She out her glasses on and held up a red heart-shaped pillow with a bow attached. The actress then explained: “It’s a heart shaped cushion and it’s from a lady called Catherine who I’ve never met, never seen but my daughter has met her recently and she told her what I was going through and she’s been through the same thing.” She then picks up a card and reads it: “And it says, ‘To Beverly I’m so sorry that you’re having to go through all of this. But I know you have great support, which is so important, and I’d be very happy to chat at any stage if you need a listening ear.

“‘I found the underarm where the lymph nodes had been taken out so sore, and this pillow pops under your arm and helps to make it a bit more comfy. I found it especially useful when trying to sleep. With lots of love, Catherine’.” Beverley was then seen in tears as she continued: “And so I just thought tomorrow will be a better day and when I am really better, I’m going to give this as a gift to someone else who is going through it. Now, I’m going,” she announces before the camera cuts off.

As she posted the video on her Instagram page, Beverley wrote in the caption: “Please bear with me… this was a tough one” followed by a red heart emoji. She was soon flooded with supportive comments as one fan wrote: “There’s some gorgeous people in this world. How lovely was that to receive. Brighter days will come”. Another added: “Bev sending you big big hugs you are amazing”. And a third wrote: “You are going to have good and bad days. We aare all willing you to be better soon. Much love and many hugs sent your way bev”.
