Matt Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has landed a new streaming home in the UK. The unique reimagining takes Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice and adds a “remarkably good” sci-fi twist.
The comedy horror takes place in the 19th century as England is terrorised by a mysterious plague that brings the dead back to life. Having been trained in martial arts, Elizabeth Bennet reluctantly teams up with the arrogant Mr Darcy to slay the gruesome zombies.
But will their personal differences get in the way of saving their country?
The movie, based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s parody novel, was originally released in 2016 and is now available to stream on Prime Video in the UK (with a subscription).
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies stars Lily James and Sam Riley in the lead roles, alongside Smith, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, Ellie Bamber, Millie Brady, Suki Waterhouse, Douglas Booth, Charles Dance and Lena Headey.

Following its debut, the movie received a mixed reception from critics and currently holds a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 193 reviews.
“The essential problem here is that the story and characters of Austen’s novel feel totally separate from the crass and pandering zombie plot overlay,” wrote The Wrap. “So much so that some of it just doesn’t make much sense.”

However, over on IMDB, one user described the concept as “remarkably good”, adding: “If you have an open mind, an imagination and preferably a liking for both Austen and zombies you will find this film irresistible.”
Another fan praised the performance of the “great cast”, claiming they were “pleasantly surprised” by the “fun” and “campy” story.
“Let’s face it, a Jane Austen zombie movie is not for everyone. But if you’re willing to be open minded and you enjoy great acting, comedy and romance, this just might be for you,” echoed a third.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is available to stream on Prime Video.
