Meghan Markle has found herself at the centre of considerable criticism since she and Prince Harry married. When the couple first started dating, they received strong public support and were widely regarded as royals who could help modernise the institution. Their subsequent decision to step back from royal duties and relocate to the United States, however, has proved a source of ongoing controversy.
Following their wedding, Markle worked for the royal family for over a year and made several public appearances alongside senior members. The Duchess of Sussex spent an entire day with the late Queen Elizabeth, and also undertook engagements with King Charles, Prince William, the Princess of Wales and others.
A Lip Reader’s Claims
By 2023, Markle had been living in the US for three years following her departure from royal duties in 2020. Her name was nonetheless linked to a significant royal occasion that year—King Charles’ coronation—when Prince Harry returned to the UK for the ceremony and was seated behind Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
The royal siblings were seen in conversation during the event. Now, three years on, a lip reader claims to know what was said. During a recent episode of ‘Lip-Reading the Royals’, an expert alleged that Princess Anne and Prince Edward made disparaging remarks about Markle at the coronation.
Princess Anne and Prince Edward’s Alleged Exchange
‘They won’t know until they’ve broken up. We mustn’t let her get too comfy,’ Prince Edward allegedly told Princess Anne.
‘Meghan is very jealous and a scaremonger,’ Princess Anne allegedly told her younger brother.
At one point, the royal siblings laughed, and Princess Anne allegedly told Prince Edward that she had made sure Markle knew she was ‘idiot-proof’.
‘We shall continue to ignore, but it’s the most effective way for removing the unwanted,’ Prince Edward allegedly replied.
‘We have amounted that there is a disconnection,’ Princess Anne allegedly remarked.
Meghan Markle Accused of Jealousy
It is difficult to verify what Princess Anne and Prince Edward discussed at King Charles’ coronation three years ago, and whether Markle was the subject of their conversation at all. However, multiple sources have accused the Duchess of Sussex of jealousy, particularly in relation to other members of the royal family.
Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter claimed that Prince Harry’s wife had long harboured such feelings. ‘Meghan has always been jealous, jealous of other members of the family, so I can understand how the family reacts to Meghan. There’s no love lost between them, and nor will there be,’ he said.

No Concrete Proof
TV presenter Cristo Foufas said he was struck by the suggestion that Princess Anne and Prince Edward had spoken about Markle in those terms at the coronation. It should be noted, however, that there is no means of independently verifying what the royal siblings were actually discussing.
Previous reports claimed Princess Anne was never a supporter of Markle, with the late Queen’s only daughter reportedly forming a sceptical view of her as far back as 2018. Prince Edward, meanwhile, has consistently kept his distance from the public dispute between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
