Abusers like Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) can only keep their true colours hidden for so long. When the bully’s filthy temper finally pushes Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) too far, one Coronation Street resident stumbles upon the devastating effects of his violence.

A few months ago, it was hard to imagine that Todd’s life could get any worse. His cruel fiancée Theo had already subjected him to every kind of physical and emotional abuse there is.

From using exercise as a means of body-shaming and controlling to force-feeding his terrified partner a kebab, Theo’s torment of Todd knows no end. He has taken a once confident and charismatic out gay man and reduced him to a gaslit, shivering wreck scared to put a foot out of line.

Believe it or not, Theo’s found a new way to be even more hateful.

Since leaving Todd’s ex, friend and sole confidante Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) in the Corriedale crash, Theo’s been more insecure and paranoid than ever. Desperate to stop Todd from slipping away, Theo resorted to financial abuse. He pressured Todd into cutting up his credit card and agreeing to a join bank account.

With Theo’s hands on the purse strings, Todd is forced to live on a pittance and barely has enough to get by. Spending every penny has to be signed off by Theo, who is quick to judge Todd for his reckless spending.

The financial abuse is just another way for Theo to instil the fear of God in Todd, making him constantly second-guessing himself over how to please his toxic partner. But that’s about to backfire spectacularly in upcoming episodes, where Theo’s raging outburst against Todd attracts some unwanted attention.

It’s Theo’s birthday, and he’s left Todd with a measly budget to cover his presents and meal. So it’s no surprise when it comes to unwrapping the presents, he’s clearly underwhelmed. Strike one against Todd…

In the bistro, Theo invites Gary Windass (Mikey North) and Maria to join him for his birthday lunch. As he rushes in late from work, Theo shoots him daggers. Strike two…

With lunch over, Theo hands Todd the bill and insists they treat Gary and Maria. Todd sheepishly tells Nick that he’s only got £80. Throwing Todd a filthy look, Theo pays with his card leaving Todd humiliated. Strike three…

Back at home, Theo turns nasty as he accuses Todd of ruining his birthday and snaps at him to fetch a bottle of wine. When Todd suggests coffee instead, Theo loses it in a terrifying display of rage that leaves poor Todd cowering in terror. What is Theo going to do?
