If we all play our cards right, the Teyana Taylor red-carpet fashion stunt spectacular never has to end. Taylor says she is in discussions with Paul Thomas Anderson about a sequel series or movie about her One Battle After Another character, Perfidia Beverly Hills. “The conversations are very, very real,” she told IndieWire. “I want to give everybody confirmation that I am currently begging PTA to give us that. I’m begging him to give us that.”
As to the content of a Perfidia-focused property, the discussions are still diffuse. “Here and there, I make little jokes with Paul,” Taylor said. “I’m like, ‘We need to see what Perfidia did in those 16 years.’ But Perfidia and Willa need some scenes together.” It sounds like for Taylor to be happy, the Perfidia spinoff would need to be as decade-sweeping as OBAA — going into her flight to Mexico and picking up after Willa attends that protest.
There’s precedent for such a spinoff. The Super Bowl saw the first teaser for Brad Pitt and David Fincher’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood departure The Adventures of Cliff Booth. John Turturro made his own movie about his Big Lebowski character. And who could forget Frasier, the semi-successful spinoff from Frasier (1993)? We smell an Emmys juggernaut.
