Ryan Gosling appeared to be taken aback when an entertainment reporter called him from the middle of the desert. (Read more on the wild interview and check out a clip below.)

The actor, who is promoting his upcoming movie “Project Hail Mary,” looked on in confusion as Fox 32 Chicago’s Jake Hamilton appeared to be surrounded by rocks and desert soil at the start of the video interview.

“Are you in a volcano?” Gosling asked Hamilton in a clip of the interview shared to his Jake’s Takes page on YouTube.

Hamilton, who dialed the actor from the bottom of a hill as vehicles drove past on the road above him, noted that he was “rushing back” from a tour of the Grand Canyon when his bus broke down on the side of the road.

“No!” Gosling exclaimed.

“I am on the side of the road surrounded by Rocky’s family,” noted Hamilton as he picked up a nearby rock in a playful reference to an alien character from the upcoming sci-fi movie.

Gosling continued to hit Hamilton with questions about his predicament.

“There’s like four cars on a trailer [that] just went by behind you, just get one of those,” the actor suggested.

“Obviously, I would do anything not to miss an interview with you, man, so I appreciate you still taking the time,” Hamilton said.

Gosling teased the reporter over his look in the moment, “And you look like Tom Cruise in ‘Mission Impossible,’ like, the one where he’s climbing.”

The actor argued that there was a silver lining of sorts as he pointed out the “production value” of his video feed.

“Do you technically need to have a permit to shoot there? It’s like you’re doing a Western?” he joked.

As Hamilton marched through his round of questions, Gosling asked with a smile if the reporter had “help on the way,” which he confirmed.

In a later conversation with his colleagues at Fox 32 Chicago, he gave props to his girlfriend, Iris, for holding his phone camera for the now-viral interview and credited Gosling for his good nature throughout.
