Over the course of his decades-long career, Flanagan has cultivated a company of actors that he turns to time and again, much in the same way Ryan Murphy has with his myriad television projects. Many of these 11 featured in Flanagan’s Netflix miniseries Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, with assorted members also appearing in the likes of Oculus, Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Midnight Club, and The Life of Chuck.
Character details for all new cast members are under wraps, as is the plot of the new Exorcist, which Universal is set to release in theaters on Friday, March 12, 2027.
What’s known about the film, shooting in New York City, is that it will tell an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe and is not a sequel to 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer. As previously announced, the cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle, and Diane Lane.
In addition to writing and directing, Flanagan is producing via his Red Room Pictures banner, alongside David Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Executive producers include Alexandra Magistro for Red Room Pictures and Ryan Turek for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
