Alexandra Anna Daddario was born on March 16, 1986, in New York City. She was raised on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in a family with a diverse heritage, including Italian, Irish, English, and Slovak roots. Her father, Richard Daddario, is a former prosecutor and NYPD counter-terrorism chief, while her mother, Christina, is a lawyer. Her siblings, younger brother Matthew Daddario and sister Catharine Daddario, are also actors, and her grandfather, Emilio Q. Daddario, served as a U.S. congressman.
She decided to pursue an acting career at the age of 11 and began her professional journey at 16, securing a recurring role as Laurie Lewis on the ABC daytime soap *All My Children* (2002–2003). After attending Brearley School and the Professional Children’s School, she furthered her studies at Marymount Manhattan College while training in the Meisner technique.
Her breakthrough role was as Annabeth Chase in the fantasy adventure *Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief* (2010) and its sequel *Sea of Monsters* (2013). She then explored various genres: horror with *Texas Chainsaw 3D* (2013) as Heather Miller, disaster action with *San Andreas* (2015) alongside Dwayne Johnson, comedy-action with *Baywatch* (2017) as Summer Quinn, and drama with *The White Lotus* (2021), earning a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
