Daniel Ings, who currently stars as Ser Lyonel Baratheon in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, just spoke to Screen Rant about the HBO series, as well as his time filming next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter.
Ings was glowing when the topic of his trip to a galaxy far, far away came up, praising Shawn Levy’s attitude as a director and Ryan Gosling’s level of engagement with the part and the story. He said the following:
“I wonder if it maybe still hasn’t sunk in yet. It was such a fun experience. I met Shawn Levy, the director, to read for the part, and he’s inherently playful and clearly sets up an environment where people can bounce off each other and find things in the moment. So in a way, any kind of nervousness about stepping into something so established and beloved and as huge as Star Wars dissipated because I got there and I was like, ‘Oh, this is fun and playful.’ And Ryan Gosling, who I had most of my stuff with, again, was so playful with it and hunting for interesting moments. I was able to go in and be like, ‘Yeah, this is huge, but it still feels as creative as being on Lovesick or The Gentlemen or something like that.’ I loved it.”
As we know from an earlier interview, the ending of the movie was changed dramatically in the middle of filming, yet we don’t have many of the details yet. Ings expressed how much he loved the new ending:
“I felt great. I felt tremendous about it. I f–king loved it. I got nothing to add there. I got nothing, no issues for me. Listen, it was Star Wars through and through. There were days when I was walking around, and there’s droids rolling around and animatronic heads and just hundreds of people in these amazing costumes, but with a sort of punk feel to it. I loved it, so I felt excellent about it.”
Ings is the latest of a sprawling cast of actors and crew members who have spoken highly of their experience on the set and how the movie turned out. We still have another year to go until Star Wars: Starfighter is released in theaters, and we don’t know if there is any additional photography scheduled to take place this year. For now, the priority for Lucasfilm is releasing The Mandalorian and Grogu this May. Starfighter is set to take off on May 28, 2027, in time for the 50th anniversary.
Miguel Fernández is a Spanish student that has movies as his second passion in life. His favorite movie of all time is The Lord of the Rings, but he is also a huge Star Wars fan. However, fantasy movies are not his only cup of tea, as movies from Scorsese, Fincher, Kubrick or Hitchcock have been an obsession for him since he started to understand the language of filmmaking. He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white.
