The founder of an owl sanctuary who was banned from keeping birds is to be stripped of his OBE.
Paul Rose, of Walney, who ran Barrow Owl Sanctuary in Cumbria, was given a 20-week jail sentence suspended for two years and placed on a curfew for a month last year, after he admitted a string of offences involving birds.
Police and the RSPCA raided the sanctuary in March 2022 and found two tawny owls with neurological problems and a barn owl with a fractured wing, which all had to be euthanised.
A notice published on Thursday confirmed the King’s decision to cancel the honour awarded in December 2001.
