Recently, the news came that the “Ghostbusters” franchise was making a comeback in animated form on two fronts – a TV series and a movie, both crafted by Sony Pictures Animation and both for Netflix.
Sam Jarvis (“Dollface”) was reportedly hired last month to pen the script for the film, which aimed to bring a ‘Spider-Verse’ sensibility to the “Ghostbusters” universe.
Now, scooper Jeff Sneider appeared on The Hot Mic this week. He confirmed, “there are two Ghostbusters projects in the works right now. There’s a movie, an animated movie. And an animated series. Both at Netflix. Sony’s producing them both.”
He then said he could reveal that the film is being called ‘Ecto’ and was being told from the perspective of a ghost.
He also indicated that the TV series is supposedly set in the 1990s, during the Walter Peck character’s initial run for mayor. Former “The Daily Show” head writer Elliott Kalan reportedly serves as executive producer and writer on that.
Sneider speculates both projects would be aiming at the same audience age group as something like the upcoming “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85”.
The property was previously adapted for animation back in the late 1980s with the beloved “The Real Ghostbusters” series.
