Seann William Scott quickly rose to fame with the 1999 comedy feature “American Pie” as the scene-stealing, arrogant but ultimately lovable idiot/bully Steve Stifler.

Along with a quickly blossoming film career, he took on the role three more times in 2001’s “American Pie 2”, 2003’s “American Wedding” and 2012’s “American Reunion,” but otherwise hasn’t returned to the franchise – including the five direct-to-video ‘Presents’ films.

Speaking to ComingSoon in a recent interview for his upcoming horror film “Dolly,” the actor was asked for his take on recent comments by Jason Biggs saying he’s open to returning for a fifth film.

Biggs was out promoting his directorial debut “Untitled Home Invasion Romance” at the time and was asked about potentially not just starring in but directing another “American Pie”. Scott said he’s open to reprising his role, but doesn’t think it will ever happen:

“For sure. I haven’t seen his [Jason’s] movie yet. It looks amazing. The reviews were incredible. I’m not surprised that he’s a great director. He’s so smart, even from the beginning. You could just tell he’s such a star. But yeah, of course, with Biggs directing, that would be amazing. I think it would be really fun to get everybody together. I don’t think it’ll ever happen, but it’s fun to think about.”

Asked why he thinks it won’t happen, he cites the lack of R-rated comedies in the theatrical space as the main issue:

“I don’t know. Maybe it’ll take a couple of R-rated comedies to work and be a success. Then they’re like, ‘Oh, people like this stuff again.’”

Scott’s “Dolly” is in cinemas now, and the actor also currently stars in the Tim Allen-led ABC sitcom “Shifting Gears” which has been a hit for the network.
