Gospel singer and songwriter, Oluwatosin Adejumobi, aka Tosin Bee, has opened up about the recent social media moment when afrobeats star, David Adeleke, aka Davido, mistakenly called him out online, thinking he was the son of a lawyer who represented his baby mother in a custody battle for his daughter, Imade.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, the singer said he was caught off guard when people began tagging him in the post.
“It caught me off guard when it happened. I initially thought I was being called out incorrectly when several people were tagging me online,” he said.
According to him, the situation soon became clear as a case of mistaken identity.
“Once it was clear that it was an error by my brother, Davido, I calmly composed a response to him, posted it, and added my words of encouragement, which we can all use from time to time. I didn’t believe my response would go viral the way it did,” he added.
The singer’s calm reaction drew praise from many social media users, with some commending him for choosing composure rather than escalating the situation.
Explaining what influenced his response, Tosin Bee said remaining calm has always been his natural approach to difficult situations.
“I’m usually a calm person, even when the going gets tough; it’s usually my approach to tough situations. However, in this case, it was quite easy for me to remain calm because it was clearly a case of mistaken identity and I had not done anything wrong.
“He eventually apologised, and even the internet started calling me ‘Omo lawyer’ (son of the lawyer),” he said.
Beyond the viral moment, Tosin Bee also reflected on his music career and ministry, noting that both are deeply connected in his life.
“Music and ministry are not two separate worlds in my life; they flow from the same purpose. My artistry is an extension of my ministry, so when I create music, I’m not switching hats; I’m expressing the same calling in a different language,” he said.
The singer, who has led praise and worship across Nigeria and in countries such as the United Kingdom, United States and Canada, said prayer, service and obedience to God help him remain grounded.
He also highlighted some of his recent projects, including singles such as Adurotini, More Than Able, and Songs of Joy, as well as the third instalment of his live praise series, Praise Unlimited 3.
“Following the success of Praise Unlimited Volumes 1 and 2, this project represents a significant milestone. It showcases our growth as a team and our commitment to excellence in every aspect of praise ministry,” he said.
He also advised aspiring gospel artistes to first nurture their relationship with God, create music with uplifting messages and maintain a lifestyle that reflects their ministry.
Tosin Bee added that young artistes should be patient with the process, avoid unhealthy comparisons and take advantage of digital platforms to grow their audience.
