New details about Spider-Man: Brand New Day are starting to paint a clearer picture of what Tom Holland’s next MCU adventure might look like, and it sounds like Peter Parker could end up caught in the middle of a mutant-related crisis.

The film will introduce both Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a story that puts Spider-Man on the run while trying to protect a very powerful young mutant.

According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Sink’s character, who many believe Marvel and Sony are setting up as X-Men’s Jean Grey, will be in serious trouble when the story kicks off. The report claims that Jean is captured by the government-run organization Damage Control before Spider-Man intervenes.

The scooper explains that Sadie’s character “will be ‘kidnapped by Damage Control and they torture her and Spider-Man saves her.’” Once Peter helps her escape, the two reportedly end up on the run together while being hunted down by a Damage Control agent played by Tillman.

The same source even jokingly described Tillman as “the guy from Severance with the mustache,” but the role he’s believed to be playing is a lot more significant than that description suggests.

Multiple insiders have reported that Tillman is portraying William Metzger, a villain from the X-Men comics who is being reworked for the MCU. In this version of the character, Metzger is said to lead Damage Control and hold strong anti-mutant views, putting him directly at odds with Jean Grey and anyone trying to protect her.

There’s also talk that Tillman’s involvement could stretch beyond this film. Reports say he has signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios, which may include an appearance in the upcoming X-Men reboot that Marvel is developing.

That reboot will reportedly be directed by Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts*, and it’s expected to arrive after the Multiverse Saga wraps up in 2027.

Even with Metzger potentially hunting down Spider-Man and Jean, he may not be the central villain of the story. Current reports suggest that the primary threats Peter faces will be Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III, and Mac Gargan, better known as the Scorpion, played once again by Michael Mando.

Tillman previously shared how thrilled he is to finally join the superhero world. Back in December, the actor talked about his longtime love for comic book stories, saying he “always wanted to be in that world. I used to watch DC Comics and Marvel all the time. To be a part of it is such a gift.”

Story details for the film are still being kept mostly under wraps, but we do know the movie takes place after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with the entire world forgetting that Peter Parker exists. That reset leaves Peter starting over with no support system, which could make his decision to help a hunted mutant even more dangerous.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is currently scheduled to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026 as part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 6 slate.
