Princess Anne wore a stunning rose gold and diamond floral brooch during the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey

The brooch, seen in Anne’s 1973 engagement photos to first husband Mark Phillips, is believed to have been a birthday gift from her late parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip

The royal family’s gathering for Commonwealth Day marked the largest since the former Prince Andrew’s arrest in February

Princess Anne sported a familiar accessory with decades of royal history during the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London.

Dressed in a forest green coat and matching hat, the Princess Royal, 75, accessorized her ensemble with a rose gold and diamond floral brooch.

The brooch is a regular in her repertoire of vintage jewelry and also appeared in her 1973 engagement photos with first husband, Mark Phillips. In those photos, taken on the grounds of Buckingham Palace, Anne wore the piece to anchor a pink tartan neck scarf.

The brooch, believed to have been a birthday gift from Anne’s parents, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, has made several appearances over the years. Anne wore the jewelry while attending the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Tatler reported, and at least twice last year — once during a visit to Singapore in November and again at the Royal Ascot in June.

The BBC, which traditionally airs the ceremony, announced earlier this month that it would not broadcast this year’s event due to budget constraints. The network has broadcast the Commonwealth Day Ceremony each year since 1989, except in 2021, when it was canceled because of pandemic-related restrictions.

Royal family members at this year’s service were met by anti-monarchy protesters, who questioned the family’s knowledge of the former Prince Andrew’s ties to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The service marked the royal family’s largest gathering since the former Duke of York, 66, was arrested on Feb. 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

King Charles, 77, has said of his brother’s arrest, “The law must take its course.”
